Mount Sinai and the New York Metropolitan Area

The Mount Sinai Hospital, a 1,171-bed teaching hospital located between Fifth and Madison Avenues, and spanning 98th to102nd Streets in Manhattan, is staffed by over 1,800 physicians, providing acute and tertiary inpatient care, short-term rehabilitation services, outpatient primary, specialty medical services at its Manhattan campus, in partnership with community-based organizations. It is the main teaching hospital of the Icahn School of Medicine.

The Mount Sinai Hospital is located in East Harlem, a predominantly low income community whose population is primarily of Hispanic and African American origin. The neighboring community to the South, the Upper East Side, is one of the nation's most affluent. These communities provide a broad mix of cultural, socioeconomic and ethnic diversity, which makes the delivery of health services and educational opportunities at Mount Sinai both unique and challenging.
