Nephrology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital

The Nephrology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital trains outstanding nephrologists to be leaders in the field, whether they pursue a career in academic, clinical practice, or industry. With more than 40 full-time faculty members and nearly $13 million in annual National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, the Division of Nephrology provides unparalleled opportunities for clinical education and cutting-edge research. Our fellows have published more than 90 peer-reviewed publications in the past eight years, and our graduates consistently secure prestigious full-time academic positions and NIH-mentored career development awards.

The Mount Sinai Hospital’s unique location at the intersection of Manhattan's affluent and underserved neighborhoods provides fellows with exposure to an extraordinarily diverse patient population and complex cases. This distinctive training environment, combined with Mount Sinai's pioneering legacy in nephrology, offers an unmatched educational experience. Fellows benefit from specialized training opportunities in transplant nephrology, critical care, palliative medicine, home dialysis, glomerular disease/onconephrology, and geriatrics.

We understand that exceptional medical training requires more than just clinical excellence. Our program fosters a supportive, collaborative environment where fellows can thrive both professionally and personally. Under the guidance of our dedicated faculty, fellows have the opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research, provide sophisticated patient care across the Mount Sinai Health System, and develop the skills needed to become nephrology leaders. Our wellness program aims to ensure that fellows maintain a healthy work-life balance while pursuing their career goals and creates an atmosphere where innovation and compassionate care can go hand in hand.

All positions in our program are filled via the National Resident Matching Program. Interviews occur during the fall and the match results are released in early December. Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service®.  Application materials include:

  • Transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement

Consistent with Mount Sinai's commitment to a safe and drug-free environment for our patients and staff, all new employees, including trainees, are required to pass a drug-screening test prior to beginning employment. Accommodation will be made for those taking prescription drugs.
