Commemoration and Special Events
Student Affairs coordinates major student events including Orientation, the White-Coat Ceremony, Achievement Ceremony, Match Day and Commencement.
Orientation for first year students takes place the week prior to the start of classes and introduces students to all the facets of the medical school – the curriculum, physical space, the community, the faculty and staff, and the great resources available to students.
The White Coat Ceremony
The White Coat Ceremony marks the student's initiation into professional training. The students are "coated" and take an oath to uphold scientific excellence and the compassionate care of patients. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.

After four or more years of hard work, students find out where they will be spending the next phase of their medical training. Each student receives an envelope in which their residency program is listed. Family, friends, faculty, and staff attend the festivities to celebrate with the students.

Commencement is a celebration of our graduating student's accomplishments. Students are hooded and receive their degree as they walk across the stage of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Commencement occurs in May.
