Office of Postdoctoral Affairs
Established February 1, 2000, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at the Icahn School of Medicine was created to serve as a dedicated resource for postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and administrators. We continue to support and to enhance the outstanding scientific training available to all of our postdoctoral investigators.
The Office works to strengthen the postdoctoral experience in a variety of ways. Early initiatives included standardizing the appointment process, maintaining a database of current postdoctoral fellows as well as alumni, and assisting in training grant applications. The Office has developed a variety of programs designed to complement the academic training. To ensure that the advanced training in which fellows participate is of the highest caliber, it is vital that it be administered in an atmosphere of responsible and ethical conduct. To this end, we are launching a series of seminars focusing on responsible conduct in research. The Office has organized a series of workshops on career development that include sessions on grant and manuscript writing and on career opportunities in industry and other private sectors.
We also address "quality of life" issues with our services and programs. The Office assists in finding convenient, affordable housing. We organize a variety of social activities, including lunches, social evenings, and round tables on significant professional issues. In addition, the Office encourages and supports postdoc-initiated activities.
The ultimate goal of the Office is to provide an excellent scientific and supportive personal environment to engender the best possible postdoctoral experience, at the Icahn School of Medicine.
