Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship - Mount Sinai West

At Mount Sinai West, we offer a one-year accredited fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology. We have an extremely busy obstetric service with more than 6,000 deliveries a year, a significant number of which involve high-risk patients. Our obstetric anesthesia team is involved in the care of more than 80 percent of all deliveries. The obstetric anesthesia team has eight fellowship-trained anesthesiologists, all of whom work closely with the fellow and residents rotating on our service.

As our obstetric anesthesia fellow, you will be closely involved with managing our busy labor floors. You will supervise anesthesia residents and medical students as well as personally administers numerous neuraxial blocks. You will perform anesthesia consults for all medically complicated patients who present prior to delivery and formulate an anesthetic plan, working with one of the attending physicians.

You will also participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds in the labor and delivery suite, where we discuss the status and plan for patients on the intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum services. You will work in the fetal medicine service and do a neonatal intensive care rotation.

In addition, you will participate in the OB-GYN weekly conference and in a weekly join conference with obstetricians, neonatologists, and genetics to review high-risk patients and their pregnancies. You will attend monthly leadership and departmental continuing quality improvement meetings.

Along with the clinical responsibilities, we expect our fellows to commit academic time to pursue research projects and prepare lectures. You are expected to participate in continuing research and to design and submit a research project for Institutional Review Board approval.  We expect these research activities to lead to presentations at regional and national conferences. You will also give lectures to residents on their OB anesthesia rotation, present at journal club, and participate in departmental morbidity and mortality conference.
