Under the leadership of Dr. Erwin Bottinger (founding director of IPM), our multi-disciplinary research and clinical team succeeded in joining the U01 collaborative consortium eMERGE Network.

eMERGE (Electronic Medical Records and Genomics) is a national network organized and funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), at the National Institutes of Health, that combines DNA biorepository with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for large scale, high-throughput genetic research in support of implementing genomic medicine.

For eMERGE II, our institution’s specific aims were:

• Develop and contribute expertise and tools in electronic phenotyping to support genomic discovery projects leading in particular projects that are focused on non-European populations
• Implement genomic medicine demonstration pilot projects
• Advance knowledge in ethical, societal and legal dimensions of genomics and genomic medicine

Through a partnership with the NIH and Vanderbilt University, we have a continued role in the eMERGE Network to investigate the following aims:

• To survey patients in our eMERGE PGx cohort on their perceptions, attitudes and knowledge on pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine
• Collaborate with other eMERGE sites for network wide PGx projects and manuscripts such as CDS metrics and other clinical outcomes
• Active data collection and analysis for CDS metrics for successfully implemented drug-gene pair examples at Mount Sinai
