Third Annual Faculty Development Day

On Thursday, November 8, 2012 over 100 Mount Sinai School of Medicine faculty members gathered in Goldwurm Auditorium for the Third Annual Faculty Development Day. Sponsored by the Office of Academic Development & Enrichment (OADE) & OADE Partners, the event focused on faculty promotion, using three distinct sessions to provide a personalized approach to understanding both the requirements for advancement and the resources that support faculty in meeting their goals.

Following opening remarks by Dean Dennis Charney, Dr. Penny Asbell, Vice Chair for Clinical, Committee on Appointments, Promotion & Tenure ("APT"), delivered a keynote speech replete with information about the faculty promotion process and the requirements for specific ranks and tracks. The Q & A session then gave Dr. Charney, Dr. Asbell and others an opportunity to focus on specific promotion issues of importance to the audience.

At a special "Lunch with Resources" event, faculty met one-on-one with representatives from over 20 Mount Sinai School of Medicine resource groups. Following lunch, break-out sessions offered an additional opportunity in a more intimate setting for junior faculty to ask track-specific career advancement questions to panels of APT committee members. At the conclusion of the event one attendee remarked, "I liked the openness of the sessions and was able to get a clear guide through the process."
