Last year 24,000 Americans were diagnosed with liver cancer, the fastest-growing cancer of the past decade. "Liver cancer is a malignant tumor that arises from the liver as the result of ongoing damage or cirrhosis," says Dr. James Park, a transplant hepatologist and gastroenterologist at The Mount Sinai Hospital. "The most common causes of this damage are hepatitis B, hepatitis C and fatty liver disease."
