Overview
Adolescent Medicine was the first primary care program in New York designed specifically for the health needs of adolescents. At the Adolescent Health Center, we provide patients ages 10 through 21 with confidential, comprehensive medical and mental health care, family planning, and health education. The Center also has programs on parenting skills, cardiovascular risk reduction, and AIDS prevention and treatment. The Center operates school-based clinics in two local high schools.
The Division of Adolescent Medicine plays an active role in patient care and teaching on the 24-bed adolescent inpatient unit. The Division conducts clinical research in the areas of adolescent AIDS, the psychosocial aspects of sexual abuse in adolescents, the pattern of use of family planning services, short-term vs. long-term psychotherapy in adolescence, and the pattern of use of school-based clinics.
