Funding for Scholarly Year
All students on Scholarly Year must have a source of financial support. Students conducting a Scholarly Year are not eligible for MSSM institutional scholarships, federally subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford loans, although full-time student status allows scholarly year students to defer any existing loans.
Scholarly Year students are eligible for student housing and health insurance, and remain covered by Mount Sinai malpractice insurance. Scholarly Year students are expected to work full-time on their scholarly project or degree program. For details, please review the Scholarly Year Guidelines.
The Medical Student Research Office provides assistance with selecting the most appropriate national fellowship program or internal Mount Sinai fellowship for students interested in pursuing a scholarly year.
