Traditional Pathway

At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) we have a legacy of excellence in education, basic, translational, and clinical research, patient care, and service to our communities. Founded on the principle of balancing rigorous scientific thinking with a concern for society and the whole patient, our school offers a rich environment for lifelong learning. As the only school in the Mount Sinai Health System, we provide an extraordinary array of expertise into our classrooms and laboratories, and unparalleled clinical experiences in communities all over New York City.

Our MD Degree Program combines the most progressive, technologically advanced, scientifically-based education with the goal of addressing health care needs locally in New York City and around the world. We explicitly blur the traditional distinction between preclinical and clinical years by integrating basic and clinical sciences across courses as well as initiating students into the clinical environment from their first day of school.

Our MD Program is extremely selective, receiving more than 6,000 applications for each entering class of 140 students. We seek applicants who are academically successful, passionate about medicine, and enthusiastic about solving some of society’s most challenging problems.
