One-Year Research Fellowship in Gastroenterology

The Digestive Disease Research Foundation seeks highly motivated medical students to be intimately involved in the planning and execution of a clinical research project during a full-year, full-time fellowship within a busy Manhattan gastroenterology practice.

The successful applicant will conduct research under the close mentorship of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai faculty, with the goal of manuscript publication and conference presentation. In addition, DDRF Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in Icahn School of Medicine graduate level course in Biostatistics or Methods in Clinical Research and as well as a series of clinical rotations with board certified surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists who specialize in GI illnesses.

A generous research stipend ($35,000/year) as well as funding for health insurance and conference travel will be provided. Requirements include: full-time commitment from August 2015 thru June 2016, interest in an academic medical career, and the ability to work well independently and in a group.

Fellowship Award:

The student will receive a stipend of $ 35,000 for the year to support room and board. Additional funding is provided for health insurance expenses, participation in one of two approved Icahn School of Medicine graduate courses in Biostatistics or Methods in Clinical Research as well as a reimbursement for DDRF-related conference travel.

The Department of Neurosurgery is offering a one-year research fellowship for Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai medical students considering a career in neurosurgery.

The student will receive a stipend of $28,000 for the year to support room and board. Health insurance, plus funds to support travel to one meeting to present the results of the project, are also included.

The Steven Sacks, MD and Carole Sacks Research Fellowship in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery
Application Deadline: April 1, 2015

As a Sacks Fellow, students will have the opportunity to engage in a year-long research project with a faculty mentor in the Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. Students will also have the opportunity to shadow clinical activities and will be expected to take part in all departmental educational activities, such as head and neck cancer tumor board and grand rounds. Information about ongoing research in the department can be found online.

Eligibility:

The fellowship is available to students currently in their third year of medical school. Please see the Scholarly Year Guidelines.

Fellowship Award:

The student will receive a stipend of $25,000 for the year to support room and board. Health insurance is not included.

Application:

Interested students must submit:

  1. A letter of interest.
  2. CV.
  3. A personal statement not to exceed 1 page detailing your motivation to apply for the fellowship, what you hope to get out of the year and how your prior research or other experiences makes you an outstanding candidate. You may include any other information that you would like the selection committee to know. Include in your letter a statement allowing permission for the selection committee to review your school record, which would include grades and board scores.
  4. A brief research proposal outlining your project for the year. Learn more about preparing a research proposal.
  5. Two letters of recommendation, with one preferably from a current/former research mentor.
