Chemistry
The Chemistry Laboratories at the Mount Sinai Medical Center reflect the state of the art in automation and technology in Laboratory Medicine. Accredited by the New York State Department of Health and the College of American Pathologists and staffed by 70 licensed professionals including five with PhD degrees and 65 technologists, our Laboratory operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing excellent turn-around times while performing close to 5 million tests a year.
The Core Laboratory for Chemistry features total laboratory automation with a stockyard that can store 15,000 specimens. Our Director, Lakshmi Ramanathan, PhD, and Assistant Director, Marie E. Grace PhD, along with the Supervisors and Clinical Pathology Resident-On-Call are always available for consultation and to facilitate the use of the Laboratory’s services. As part of a dynamic academic teaching hospital, the Laboratory also participates in a number of studies requiring laboratory testing. Investigators are encouraged to contact Dr. Ramanathan during the grant-writing process to seek advice on the most appropriate testing protocols.
