Office for Professional Engagement and Development

The Office for Professional Engagement and Development (OPED), within the Office of the Dean at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, supports the professional success and well-being of faculty, students, residents, and clinical and postdoctoral fellows. OPED integrates previously separate offices, programs, centers, and institutes, and works closely with the Department of Human Resources and its Division of Talent Development and Learning; the Leni and Peter W. May Department of Medical Education at Mount Sinai; the Department of Graduate Education; the Office of Graduate Medical Education; the Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing; the Center for Stress, Resilience and Personal Growth; and others. It aligns engagement, development, and workplace experience to foster well-being, belonging, and career advancement across the Mount Sinai community. This unified approach reflects Mount Sinai's commitment to creating a sustainable environment where every individual can thrive.

  2. Support the professional success, well-being, fulfillment, and sense of belonging of students and postgraduate trainees, encouraging their academic progress and career development.
  3. Cultivate a culture in which everyone feels valued, supported, and welcome as part of the Mount Sinai community.
  4. Provide programs and resources that promote growth, development, and learning for faculty, students, and postgraduate trainees.
  5. Strengthen recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty, students, and postgraduate trainees through the initiatives of our core programs.

Cores Overview

OPED’s work is organized through three interconnected divisions, called cores, which reflect the essential elements of professional engagement and development across Mount Sinai. Each core builds on existing strengths while fostering new collaborations that promote professional success, belonging, and well-being.
