What’s New at the Chemistry Lab
The Chemistry Laboratory is constantly expanding its services by adding new tests and technologies, including the following
- Methotrexate: now offered every day until 9 p.m.
- New Tests: Beta-hydroxbutyrate will soon be replacing our ketone assay.
- Cystic Fibrosis Sweat Chloride Testing: As recommended by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a lower abnormal limit has been adopted for newborns under the age of three months.
- Confirmatory Testing of positive hepatitis C virus (HCV) screen: If confirmatory testing is desired, a request for HCV RNA quantitative PCR must be submitted along with a pearl capped top tube.
The Center for Clinical Laboratories at Mount Sinai will be performing tests for Celiac Disease. These include both serological and HLA genotyping tests. These tests are performed according to the attached Celiac Disease Algorithm. IgA is assayed for all Celiac Serology requests, followed by the appropriate tissue transglutaminase and deamidated gliadin antibodies. For monitoring purposes, use the serological test that was most positive at the time of diagnosis. Serological tests are performed three times a week. HLA genotyping can be used to exclude celiac disease when serology test is equivocal. A Informed consent is required for HLA Genotyping.
