About the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratories
The Hematology Laboratory has extensive experience in routine clinical testing, special hematology and coagulation testing, assay development, validation, implementation and quality control standards, methods, and compliance. It operates under a permit issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). In 2011, the Hematology Laboratory, as part of the Hemoglobinopathy Specialty Center, was recommended for final approval as a NYSDOH Wadsworth Center Newborn Screening/Children with Special Health Care Needs Program.
The Hematology and Coagulation Laboratory utilizes modern robotics and advanced technology in Laboratory Medicine. Its staff consists of a Board Certified physician and 48 licensed technologists and supervisors performing well over 2 million special hematology, special coagulation, as well as ‘routine’ tests each year. This flagship robotics laboratory, the largest in the city, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing some of the fastest possible turnaround times for STAT, urgent, and routine specimen testing.
