Microvascular Surgery

The purpose of the Microvascular Surgery Shared Resource Facility is to provide microsurgical services for the Transplantation Institute and other research laboratories within Mount Sinai. The facility has extensive experience in standard microsurgical procedures as well as innovative techniques relevant to many areas of biomedical research.

The staff will teach basic and advanced microsurgical techniques to fellows, surgical residents and medical students, as well as other research staff members engaged in projects within Mount Sinai. We can also perform the procedures listed below, or develop new ones if necessary, on a fee-for-service basis that covers the costs of personnel and material.

The facility is staffed by two full-time microvascular surgeons who work under the direction of Dr. Peter S. Heeger and Dr. Peter Boros. The surgeons are versatile in their abilities to perform a broad range of microsurgical procedures in rodents. These procedures encompass a variety of complex transplant and vascular procedures in rodent models, as well as other microsurgical procedures important to medical research.

The primary goal is to provide services, training and assistance within Mount Sinai, but the facility has worked with scientists from other institutions as well.
