Committee on Special Awards

The Committee on Special Awards (CoSA) is part of the Dean's Research Council and is responsible for identifying new strategies that will improve our ability to compete for the numerous highly prestigious awards and grants that Icahn School of Medicine at Mount faculty are invited to apply for each year.

CoSA works closely with faculty that has the appropriate scientific expertise for evaluating research applications critically to determine the candidates who most likely will compete successfully for awards. CoSA identifies special awards as well as awards opportunities for which new investigators, newly recruited faculty, and senior faculty are eligible.

CoSA assists faculty in the preparation of applications and letters of support required from the Dean. In addition, CoSA helps facilitate processing and mailing the application to the award sponsor.

Current Opportunities

Many foundations restrict the number of grant applications that can be submitted from any single institution. Email announcement to the Mount Sinai community of these opportunities request pre-proposal versions of applications whose deadline is usually 6 weeks prior to the funding agency’s deadline. The pre-proposals are then evaluated by CoSA.. Based on the resultant ranking, the committee recommends applications to the Dean for his approval. In addition to ranking the candidates, feedback for improvement of their applications is given to all candidates.
