The Pediatrics Residency Training Program at Elmhurst Hospital Center is an ACGME-accredited categorical 3-year program established in 1939. Currently approved for 14 trainees per year, the Program has prepared hundreds of residents to care for children as both general pediatricians and subspecialists.
Serving the most diverse community in the United States, the Program rests on the foundation of a rich and challenging clinical experience. As the major center for pediatric care in the borough of Queens, New York, Elmhurst Hospital Center sees more than 120,000 pediatric visits each year in its outpatient, subspecialty, emergency, neonatal and inpatient services.
Under the longstanding sponsorship of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the Pediatrics Residency Program has flourished, offering trainees many opportunities for patient care, research and teaching through the resources of Elmhurst Hospital Center and the Mount Sinai Health System.
Welcome from the Program Leadership
As the leaders of the Pediatrics Residency Program, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Pediatrics at Elmhurst Hospital Center. As you learn about our residency, we hope you will appreciate the strengths of training in a community hospital that cares for an underserved, immigrant population, as well as the opportunity to train at a major academic center that receives referrals for complex, chronic pediatric illness.
This is a resident-driven program. Our trainees are vital members of the department, and we consider them key stakeholders in the care of our patients. While we have a rich history in preparing trainees for the fundamentals and practice of General Pediatrics, we place equal significance on broad clinical exposure to all pediatric subspecialties in a stimulating academic setting. Above all, our priority is to create a learning environment that maximizes the potential for all of our trainees to develop as pediatricians and individuals.
Compassion. Commitment. Integrity. These are the principles that guide our Program. We look forward to meeting you, and hope that you can join us in our pursuit of excellence in pediatric inquiry, discovery and patient care.
