Mount Sinai Brooklyn PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency Program at Mount Sinai Brooklyn (MSB) is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. We offer two PGY-1 pharmacy residency positions.

The Department’s philosophy upholds the concept of “pharmaceutical care,” which recognizes the pharmacist’s contribution to patient care. The 12-month diverse program, beginning July 1, offers our residents opportunities to become involved in many areas of clinical practice.

We are committed to providing an outstanding postgraduate residency training program. The program provides experience in the clinical, administration, information technology, and academic aspects of pharmacy.

Our Mission

Mount Sinai Brooklyn believes that the mission of the Pharmacy Residency Program is to help our residency graduates achieve their career goals. The mission is to advance and support each resident’s development toward achieving the skills necessary to become independent practitioners and serve their patients and community.

Our Vision

All residency graduates complete a rich and diverse array of clinical, administrative, and educational experiences. This training will position you to pursue advanced training and/or practice in any health care setting. Upon completing the residency program, graduates will:

  • Be prepared to obtain further specialized or advanced postgraduate training, or employment most suited for their individual abilities and interests if desired
  • Be able to deliver compassionate, comprehensive, and evidence-based care to patients for the safest and most effective use of medications
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and investigate practice, review data, and assimilate scientific evidence to improve patient care and/or the medication-use system
  • Possess leadership and practice management skills

Our Pharmacy Department

The Mount Sinai Brooklyn Pharmacy Department embraces and adapts new technology to improve patient care. Recent renovations incorporate state-of-the-art USP 797 and USP 800 compliant rooms. In addition, the department utilizes the Pyxis system for medication management. The hospital uses the Epic electronic medical record system and the Willow Inventory feature to track the movement and inventory of medicine throughout the hospital. Mount Sinai Brooklyn has also started our own full-time ambulatory infusion practice, in which pharmacy plays an integral role in admixing and delivering chemotherapy and therapeutic infusions.

The Hospital

Mount Sinai Brooklyn, a 212-bed acute-care community hospital in Midwood, has gone through numerous renovations and upgrades over the past decade. The latest advances include a completely redesigned intensive care unit, the addition of a step-down intermediate intensive care unit, revamped ambulatory infusion services, and a new state-of-the-art radiology suite. New equipment includes a 128-slice computed tomography scanner and magnetic resonance imaging, and digital mammography equipment.
