Medical Students Awards

There are two categories of financial aid available at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Category 1: Title IV Aid
Title IV aid is the Federal Stafford Loan and GradPlus Loan Programs. Limited College Work/Study may be available, if eligible, but usually is limited to the two summer months between academic years one and two, and two and three.

If you are solely interested in this type of aid you will need to file:

    • the Icahn School of Medicine Institutional Application for Financial Assistance (all four pages)
    • the Free Application for Federal Student Aid application (ISMMS code is G07026)
    • submit your (and spouse, if married) previous year's signed Federal tax transcripts, with W2s

This aid takes into account your (and spouse, if married) income/assets.

We will receive the FAFSA electronically.

Category 2: Institutional Aid and Title VII Aid
This includes Icahn School of Medicine need-based scholarships and loans, Title VII aid (Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students and the Super Primary Care Loans for graduating students specializing in Primary Care), Perkins Loans, as well as the Stafford and GradPlus federal loan programs listed in Category 1.

To be considered for this category students must file:

    • the Icahn School of Medicine (ISMMS) Institutional Application for Financial Assistance (all four pages)
    • the Free Application for Federal Student Aid application (ISMMS code is G07026)
    • submit your (and spouse, if married) and your parent's previous year's signed Federal tax transcripts, with W2s
    • The Need Access Application. Need Access asks for information from the student (and spouse, if married), and parent(s)

To be considered for gift and institutional loans, all questions must be fully answered. We will receive the results electronically.

Deadlines for Application
The application deadline for continuing students is May 1. Incoming students have until June 15 to file. Incoming students admitted from the wait list after the June 15 deadline have one month from their offer of admission to submit all required information. If you miss the priority deadline, but may have qualified for scholarships, will only be awarded scholarship funds if those funds are still available.

The Financial Aid Process and Awarding
Once your status is accepted and all of your materials are in, we will assess your financial need in light of available funds. The initial notification of your financial aid award will be by email, so a current valid email address must be on record. If after receiving your financial aid offer by email you choose to accept it and wish further processing, sign the email award letter and return it to our office. That will initiate the mailing of the complete financial aid/loan packet, which includes an entrance interview form, the award letter, and Master Federal Stafford and GradPlus Promissory Note Instructions. The Promissory Note will be valid for the duration of your enrollment at the Icahn School of Medicine.

Please return the award letter, and your completed Promissory Note to:
