Therapeutic & Human mAbs
Therapeutic Monoclonal Antibodies
Therapeutic monoclonal antibodies generated more than $50 billion in sales last year. Six of the top 15 selling drugs in this country are monoclonal antibodies and Humera, mAbs for the cytokine TNF are now the largest seller at $9.5 billion. There are more that 250 candidates currently in various stages of development/testing.
Research and development of therapeutics should occur at the interface of academic research and medicine. At Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, top scientists in the country are making observations of great medical importance. Currently, these findings are freely published; however, conversion of the findings into products with clinical significance for new therapies or treatments often occurs elsewhere.
At the Center for Therapeutic Antibody Development (CTAD), we are committed to assisting investigators in the development of therapeutics based upon their own individual research findings. Calls for targets that have potentially unmet medical needs will be announced regularly and assistance will be provided for antibody production, testing, and commercialization by CTAD and the Mount Sinai Innovation Partners (MSIP).
Humanized Monoclonal Antibodies
Since antibodies made in non-human species illicit immune responses in humans, they must be 'humanized' to increase their similarity to natural human antibodies. Human or humanized monoclonal antibodies to novel, pertinent proteins derived from the research of our faculty, can be produced and characterized in the CTAD. Assistance with locating industrial partners will be provided by MSIP.
CTAD has the capacity to humanize monoclonal antibodies made in other species including mouse. Presently, this is accomplished through our close interaction with the Medical Research Council Technology (MRC-T) in London, a group of internationally recognized experts in this technology.
