At the Brain and Body Research Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, we require a multidisciplinary approach that will influence research areas to collaborate about how the brain and body interact with disease. Our overall strategy is bidirectional: we perform trials in patients to identify disease mechanisms and then use preclinical models to dissect the complex way in which the brain and body interact with each other. We then bring this insight back to patients to perform cutting-edge clinical trials for development of novel treatments. We hold ourselves to the highest, academic, professional, and medical standards. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for people affected by brain and body stressors.
Our Approach
We know that when researchers work together, the breakthroughs will advance the future of the Brain and Body Research Center. The Center will work across numerous departments and institutes on campus and harness advances in this growing field into better diagnosing and treating today’s most impactful diseases. Seeking to understand how the brain affects our biological responses is central to learning how the body adapts to stressors. We work closely with other departments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai including the following research partners:
- BioMedical Engineering and Imaging Institute
- Cardiovascular Research Institute at Mount Sinai
- Department of Dermatology
- Department of Neurology
- Department of Psychiatry
- Depression and Anxiety Center for Discovery and Treatment
- Friedman Brain Institute
- Mount Sinai Bone Program
- Nash Family Department of Neuroscience
- Precision Immunology Institute at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (PrIISM)
