Eye and Vision Research Institute

In this time of unprecedented biomedical innovation, we have an opportunity to dramatically improve eye care through trailblazing research that links powerful biobanks to electronic health records. At the Mount Sinai/New York Eye and Ear Eye and Vision Research Institute, we are seizing this moment to advance the field and transform the lives of patients suffering from complex ocular diseases.

Our approach is defined by a culture of collaboration, recruiting diverse teams to pursue the most important research questions. We aim high, leveraging the unique skill sets of our faculty and trainees to disentangle the root causes of eye disease. Through tireless research rigor, we validate findings across datasets to ensure our discoveries stand up to scrutiny. We always ask "why," knowing that curiosity drives medical breakthroughs that benefit patients and society.

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has a storied history of serving the most vulnerable and incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives to solve challenging problems. We build on this legacy as we collect genetic sequencing data from racially and ethnically diverse patients through the Mount Sinai Million Health Discoveries Program. Our goal is to empower patients through upstream approaches—preventing disease when possible, developing rational early-stage therapies, and delivering personalized care to those with progressive conditions.

As the Eye and Vision Research Institute evolves, I am energized by the potential to develop more targeted and individualized treatments for the full spectrum of eye diseases. Through relentless inquiry and multi-pronged strategies, we will give patients the knowledge and tools to protect their precious gift of sight. I invite you to join us in this vital mission.
