Conferences and Didactics

Educational conferences, journal clubs, multidisciplinary conferences, and formal courses are an integral part of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency program. These include the following:

  • Daily educational conferences: Two midday subspecialty conferences given by faculty that are didactic and/or case-based
  • Monthly department grand rounds: Presented by a visiting lecturer and consisting of case-based review for the residents and a departmental lecture for the residents and faculty.
  • Weekly "Core Club": Dedicated review for first year residents based on the book Core Radiology led by senior residents. 
  • Radiology physics curriculum: Radiology and Nuclear Medicine department physicists and radiation biologists cover radiation physics, diagnostic imaging, radiation biology, and radiation protection
  • Weekly multidisciplinary subspecialty conferences: These include Body Imaging Interesting Case Conference, Chest Rad/Pulm Interesting Case,  Neuroradiology Interesting Case Conference, Breast Rad/Path/Surgery Conference. Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards, plus many more. Residents typically attend while on the subspecialty rotation.
  • ACR American Institute for Radiology Pathology (AIRP) course: The department provides a $2,500 stipend to attend the course during the third year of radiology residency training.
  • Board review course: The department pays for residents to attend the New York Roentgen Society (NYRS) Core Exam Review (CERC)
  • New York Roentgen Society (NYRS): Department paid membership to city wide Radiology society with monthly meetings and chances to interact with other radiology residents
  • National conferences (i.e. RSNA, ARRS, ASNR, SIR, AUR etc.): The department reimburses travel expenses up $2,500 to attend clincial and research meetings for the presentaion of papers, abstracts, and scientifc exhibits. The stipend covers meeting registration fees, transportation expenses  including domestic coach air travel, lodging, and per diem expenses such as meals. An additional $500 travel support fund is availabe from GME. During the fourth year of residency, the department also reimburses attendance of a national conference of the resident's choosing.
