Neuroscience and Clinical Research
My early research in basic neuroscience focused on identification of neurochemical and genetic substrates of medical disorders. Since transitioning to clinical practice, I have applied this basic science to clinical research, with the purpose of better understanding disease etiology and patient outcome. During my tenure at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, I have been involved with multi-center and clinical trials studies related primarily to epilepsy and movements disorders, with emphasis on genetics and surgical outcome. I have participated in international and interdisciplinary collaboration to identify disease profiles, genetic risk factors, and biomarkers in these medical populations to help enhance our conceptualization of the disorders. In addition to being a coinvestigator in these studies, I have mentored doctoral and medical students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows on research projects. Together, we have generated abstracts presented at national and international conferences, and written manuscripts accepted into peer reviewed journals.

Internship, Clinical Neuropsychology, Northwell Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
