Ira A. Parness, MD holds the Richard J. Golinko Endowed Professorship and is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Icahn School of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital.  Dr. Parness received his B.A. magna cum laude from Touro College and his M.D. cum laude from SUNY- Downstate.  After his pediatric (and chief ) residency at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Parness completed pediatric cardiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School where, from 1985-1992, he served as a Pediatric Cardiology attending and director of pediatric heart transplantation.

Recruited to Mount Sinai in 1992 as Director of Pediatric Echocardiography and Associate Division Director, Dr. Parness became the Pediatric Cardiology Division Chief in 1997 and served as co-director of Mount Sinai’s Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship through March 2012. Dr. Parness is an internationally recognized expert echocardiographer with special interests in complex congenital heart disease, preoperative cardiac surgical planning and fetal cardiology.  An author/co-author of over 70 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, review articles and an innovative video teaching collection, Dr. Parness has received numerous awards, including the prestigious American Society of Echocardiography’s inaugural Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006.  He is a frequently invited lecturer at national meetings.  The recipient of Mount Sinai’s 1997 “Attending of the Year” award, Dr. Parness has been named to nearly every annual or bi-annual list of NY magazine’s Best Doctors, Castle-Connolly’s America’s and NY Metro Region Top Doctors, Consumer’s Research Council’s Guide to America’s Top Pediatricians and New York Times Magazine’s Super Doctors.

The Division of Pediatric Cardiology was one of the sponsors of the 23rd Annual Valentine's Reunion Party which was featured in INSIDE MOUNT SINAI.
