A comprehensive clinical, educational, and research program in human and medical genetics has been in existence at Icahn School of Medicine for more than 40 years. Our extraordinary growth over this time has allowed us to offer:
- General genetic services as well as specialty programs in metabolic disease, congenital anomalies, cardiovascular genetics, cancer genetics
- Comprehensive genetic testing services available through biochemical, cytogenetic, and molecular laboratories
- Basic and clinical research supported by more than $27 Million in NIH grants (total costs), million in research grants and involving the efforts of more than 200 faculty and staff members
Genetics Training Programs
The Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences provides a broad array of training opportunities in genetics and genomics spanning clinical and research disciplines. The Division of Medical Genetics is home to accredited clinical genetics training programs including residency and fellowship training for physicians and clinical laboratory training for postdoctoral fellows, as well as an accredited degree-granting program in Genetic Counseling.
- Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG)-accredited site for medical genetics residency and fellowship training
- American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG)-accredited site for cytogenetic/cytogenomic, biochemical, and molecular genetics fellowship training
- American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited site for master's degree-granting Genetic Counselor Training Program
