Adolescent Medicine, Family MedicineSamuel Sandowski, MD is a Professor of Family Medicine and a Professor of Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr Sandowski serves as the VP for Medical Education of Mount Sinai South Nassau (MSSN) as well as the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at MSSN and was the past director of their Family Medicine residency program. Dr. Sandowski graduated cum laude from the Technion Faculty of Medicine in Israel. After completing his family medicine residency at South Nassau Communities Hospital and a faculty development fellowship at the State University of New York Health Science Center, Brooklyn (SUNY Brooklyn), he served as Medical Director of the SUNY Brooklyn family medicine center. Dr. Sandowski subsequently returned to South Nassau to serve in his clinical and educational roles noted above. His responsibilities include oversight of all medical student education, graduate medical education, and continuing medical education (CME) for Mount Sinai South Nassau, as well as leading the Department of Family Medicine. He has developed innovative educational strategies using residents as standardized patients in implementation of Observed Structural Clinical Exams (OSCEs) during the COVID pandemic, as well as the development of standardized residents for Observed Structured Teaching Experiences (OSTEs) as part of faculty development training.
Dr. Sandowski has served as a commission member of the NY State American Academy of Family Physicians’ Leadership Commission, and was Vice Chair for both their Education Commission, and their Public Health Commission. He has published several articles and book chapters, co-edited the textbook, Primary Care, served as a reviewer for the journal American Family Physician, and presented regionally and nationally. Dr. Sandowski is board certified in family medicine and adolescent medicine.
