To achieve our goals, the Faculty Development Core applies the following strategies:
- Provide faculty with career advancement, leadership development, and mentor training workshops, skills training, networking events, and discussion groups
- Offer practical resources, guides, and FAQ documents in our three focus areas: career advancement, mentorship enrichment, and leadership development
- Supply information about funding opportunities and internal and external training programs
- Incorporate principles and actions related to inclusion in all our programs
- Adapt our educational content for varying audiences to recognize that different faculty have different needs
- Welcome new clinical faculty and support their orientation to the Icahn School of Medicine
- Work closely with leadership of the Icahn School of Medicine and partner offices to build equitable and cross-departmental collaborative environments for faculty
Looking to the future, we are:
- Maintaining an improved faculty email network to increase awareness and use of resources
- Developing a new platform to help faculty find and communicate with potential mentors with specific characteristics
- Forming an advisory board of senior and junior faculty across departments and locations, drawing from faculty who are passionate about mentorship and career development
In addition, we evaluate every initiative for success and improvements using surveys, focus groups, and other tools.
