Mentoring skills are essential for productive, healthy relationships between mentors and trainees. We host a workshop twice each year for faculty to connect with other Mount Sinai mentors and learn new mentoring skills.
This discussion-based interactive course teaches faculty how to mentor in a culturally responsive manner. It covers mentoring philosophies and methods, including communication, building and maintaining mentoring relationships; promoting trainee independence and professional development; and fostering trainee well-being. We welcome suggestions for future workshop topics. Email OPED@mssm.edu to let us know how we can help.
Goals
The goals of the workshop are to:
- Provide faculty with a forum for discussing mentoring challenges
- Expose faculty to best practices in mentoring
- Cultivate and promote a culture of strong mentorship for trainees at Mount Sinai
