Research at The Institute for Personalized Medicine

In our approach to research at The Institute for Personalized Medicine, we believe in the principle that the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts. Collaboration and cross-pollination between lines of inquiry and various disciplines accelerate our discoveries.

While pursuing individual lab research agendas, our research groups focus on a number of overlapping areas. These include genetic epidemiology, population genetics in disease, genome-guided health care, and development of markers, targets and models of kidney disease, genetic influences on medication response, and clinical translation and improving diagnosis of adult genetic disorders. Research Into COVID-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic has swept the world, researchers at the Institute have been working tirelessly toward understanding the role that genomics plays in the disease. The unpredictability of COVID-19 poses many questions: who is prone to develop severe symptoms, why are certain organs and systems affected in certain patients and not others, what are the mechanisms of immunity and infection? The diverse patient population of New York City has given us a unique vantage point to find answers that can save lives.

Itan Lab

The Itan Lab has been investigating the role of genomics in COVID-19 with the goal of accurately identifying disease-causing mutations, genes and pathways. Recent studies include:

Nadkarni Lab

The mission of the Nadkarni Lab is to translate multi-modal data-driven insights into clinical care for complex diseases. The lab has utilized biological and molecular data, clinical data, and exposomic data to further our understanding of COVID-19. Recent studies include:

Research Partners

We have established essential partnerships and collaborations with leading academic institutions, health centers, research labs, community-based centers, and consortia. Our collaborative efforts support the mission of the Institute’s programs and individual research labs. Our partnerships include both Mount Sinai partners and external partners and collaborators.
