Structural Heart Interventions Imaging Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital

The Imaging for Structural Heart Interventions Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital is a one-year program designed to train general cardiology fellows in imaging skills for various aspects of percutaneous structural and valve interventions. Fellows learn side by side with some of the most skillful operators in the world as they perform a high proportion of complex interventions at Mount Sinai.

Working in the Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital—ranked No. 4 in the nation—provides an unparalleled opportunity to gain confidence as a hands-on primary operator. You will work with the latest technology and learn from leaders across the fields of interventional cardiology, structural interventions, and imaging for structural interventions. The Mount Sinai Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory performs more than 700 structural interventions every year, allowing fellows to master state-of-the-art imaging techniques required for the evaluation, planning, and management of patients throughout the structural heart intervention procedure.

Fellows will graduate fully proficient in advanced imaging for all aspects of structural heart intervention, including:

  • Transeptal puncture
  • Balloon aortic and mitral valvuloplasty
  • Alcohol septal ablation
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement
  • Transcatheter mitral valve repair (mitral clip) and replacement
  • Transcatheter tricuspid valve repair and replacement
  • Valve in valve procedures
  • Paravalvular leak closure (mitral and aortic)
  • Left atrial appendage closure
  • Atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closure

About the Fellowship

We will be accepting applications for positions that start July 1, 2025. This fellowship is a non-Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (non-ACGME) position.

Applicants must have completed their cardiology fellowship before applying to the Structural Heart Interventions Imaging Fellowship. Extra training in cardiovascular imaging beyond the general cardiology fellowship is preferred, but not required.

To apply, please send the following items to Program Manager Maria Directo at maria.directo@mountsinai.org by Sunday, September 1:

  • Structural Heart Interventions Imaging Fellowship Application Form
  • Current resume/CV
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation (one recommendation must be from the Echo Lab Director)
  • Copy of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or United States Medical Licensing Examination certifications for foreign graduates
  • Copies of any published abstracts and manuscripts
  • Procedure log detailing procedural training done and signed by the Echo Lab Director

The fellowship includes a busy academic schedule with regular educational activities, which   include case presentations, cardiac computed tomography/cardiovascular magnetic resonance review, transthoracic echocardiograms/transesophageal echocardiograms review, and research meetings. Fellows will participate in live clinical cases, including webcasts and the annual New York Transcatheter Valves Symposium.

Fellows are expected to participate in faculty-directed clinical research projects, which culminate in presentation at a major scientific meeting and journal publication.
