Training and Education

In July 2020, our Center, in collaboration with MAPS, trained the first cohort of MDMA psychotherapists to work on our approved research studies. Since then, the Center has run five additional MDMA- Assisted Therapy for PTSD educational retreats in collaboration with MAPS, and has trained approximately 250 therapists. These trainings provide education for investigators involved in approved research studies and raise awareness amongst clinicians about the participant-directed principle guided therapeutic approach to MDMA-AT. Our experience offering trainings and providing MDMA-AT in our clinical trials led us to develop Integrative MDMA-Assisted Therapy (IMAP) for PTSD. IMAP is a principle-guided, patient driven model that  preserves the spirit of earlier models of psychedelic assisted therapy- with a focus on empathy, presence, and respect for self-directed healing- while integrating contemporary clinical models of PTSD and a comprehensive framework for attending to patient safety. In the future we will be exploring the use of AI in training and skills assessment.

Integrative MDMA-Assisted Therapy Training Program Announcement
The Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing (PRCPH), a partnership between the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York, is excited to announce a training program in Integrative MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD (IMAP).

The retreat will take place from May 3rd- May 8th, 2026 at Honor’s Haven Retreat and Conference Center in Ellenville, NY, and will include an emphasis on veterans and VA/military considerations.

MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD is an investigational treatment not yet approved for use outside of research. There is growing interest in this investigational treatment among clinicians working with veterans and military service members whose PTSD is often difficult to treat using conventional trauma focused approaches.

Integrative MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD involves the use of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in conjunction with therapy. Clinicians knowledgeable in the field of trauma will learn how to integrate their existing skills with approaches specific to promoting recovery while working with people in non ordinary states of consciousness.
