ENT and Endocrine Pathology Fellowship at Mount Sinai West

Our ENT and Endocrine Pathology Fellowship trains one fellow over the course of a year, offering an unparalleled opportunity to interact with a large team of renowned head and neck surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists. Fellows engage in clinical care and research at The Multidisciplinary Head, Neck, and Thyroid Center, a Center of Excellence at Mount Sinai. Head and neck cancer patients are primarily treated at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai West, and Mount Sinai Morningside, which are seamlessly connected through a centralized digitalized histology hub and inclusive online tumor boards.

As a trainee, you will be exposed to a wealth of clinical material across multiple sites, in patient and consultation cases, and head and neck and thyroid tumor boards. At the Mount Sinai West Frozen Section Laboratory, you will have the opportunity to learn our unique intraoperative resection margin mapping workflow using 3-D specimen scanning. A virtual specimen model is generated and used in video communication of resection margin status. We were the first to develop this novel and intuitive model which bridges communication gaps between surgeons and pathologists.

Meet the Director

Clinical duties of the fellowship include the workup of consultations and surgical resections, supervision of residents on the service, frozen section consultations, participation in the sign-out of clinical cases, and presentation of cases at the multiple tumor boards.

Educational duties include didactic and case-based presentations at pathology and clinical conferences, training and teaching residents and medical students rotating on the service.

Elective rotations can be uniquely tailored to the fellow’s interest and career path. Examples include on-site rotation at New York Eye and Ear; fine needle aspiration clinic; and surgical outpatient clinic.

Fellows are encouraged to participate in ongoing NIH funded research projects on Quantitative Pathology and Machine Learning, in collaboration with Scott Doyle, PhD. This work is at the forefront in the development of computation digital tools for pathologists.

You are also encouraged to develop or join collaborative research projects with other clinical and research departments, culminating in scholarly contributions to medical literature.

Applications are being accepted for July 2029.

We are interested in competitive applicants who will be completing an approved residency training in anatomic pathology or anatomic and clinical pathology, or oral pathology residency and who hold a New York State medical license prior to beginning the program.
