Center for Resuscitation Science and Innovation

The Center for Resuscitation Science and Innovation (CReSI) within the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai focuses on improving survival from cardiac arrest and time-sensitive critical illness, through research, educational outreach to the community, and innovative collaborations with resuscitation scholars, industry partners, patients and their families. Our goal is to save lives and advance clinical approaches to cardiac arrest, post-arrest care, and shock, both throughout the Mount Sinai Health System and nationally. The Center serves as the nexus for collaboration among investigators in the domains of emergency medicine, neurology, cardiology, and critical care on topics pertaining to resuscitation.

The Center aims to:

Support clinical care innovations and high-quality resuscitation care training and outreach
Encourage and support funded research in topic areas relevant to Center investigators
Serve as a hub for interdepartmental collaboration and mentorship of junior faculty and fellows
Act as an advocate and organizer of community-oriented CPR training and related initiatives

Our work is focused on new approaches to cardiopulmonary resuscitation delivery and post-arrest care, epidemiologic studies of cardiac arrest outcomes, use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation during shock and cardiac arrest, and innovations in defibrillator technology and deployment. We have participated in clinical trials, and we are expanding efforts to develop new trials of medications and devices to save lives.
