Categorical Program:

Our 3-year categorical Internal Medicine program provides a wide-ranging exposure to efficient and effective, evidence based medical management of patients in most clinical settings including the general inpatient medicine, ambulatory care and critical care. We also have a wide array of opportunities to work with sub-specialty teams over these 3 years during sub-specialty specific rotations as well as several elective opportunities where our residents could obtain exposure to any specific sub-specialty of their preference.

Our residents take on more and more responsibility with each year of training to reach a point where they become confident and well-equipped to take on any career in medicine that they would like to pursue at the end of their training. They are well supported by wonderful staff that are always available for assistance and are enthusiastic about the learning experience of our residents throughout the course of training as well as a beyond. Our staff are the backbone of our program and are an important reason for the success of our residents.

Preliminary Residency:

Our Preliminary program provides one-year of basic foundational training in Internal medicine with our rotations being focused mainly on general inpatient medicine, critical care as well as ambulatory care. The exposure allows our residents to have the essential background training that is needed to advance to other specialties. By the end of the training year our residents are well equipped to manage most general medical conditions.

Our prelim residents over the years have gone after their training to succeed in various sub-specialty programs including neurology, ophthalmology, anesthesia, nuclear medicine and so on.  Our VA campus also houses prelim residents from Colombia Neurology Residency Program who work together with our IM residents to provide the best care possible to our general medicine patient population at the VA.
