The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Residency Program in Internal Medicine (Bronx) was established during 1991. It is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and is sponsored by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Our overall goal is preparing highly selected resident physicians for careers in either primary care or specialty medicine. The success of our many graduates in attaining board certification, joining excellent academic practices and continuing their training in prestigious fellowship positions attests to the strength of our curriculum and the dedication of our many teaching attendings. Particular emphasis is placed on resident wellness, duty hours limitations (as suggested by ACGME) and carful monitoring of milestones achievements.
Residency takes place principally at two main campuses – the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the North Central Bronx Hospital. Residents are exposed to patients of both sexes having a wide diversity of ages and illnesses. Residents are taught and closely monitored by senior physicians at both sites. Both institutions are equipped with state-of-the art EMRs (CPRS and EPIC) that expedite patient management and minimize the possibilities of medical error.
