The Global Health and Emerging Pathogens Institute (GHEPI) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) was created in 2010 with the goal of expanding the School’s existing expertise in pathogen research to basic and translational aspects of emerging diseases of global health concern. GHEPI works closely with the Department of Microbiology, drawing on its strong record on virology. At the same time, the GHEPI has expanded collaborations to other Institutes and Departments inside and outside of ISMMS. Under the leadership of Adolfo García-Sastre, Professor of Microbiology and of Medicine, GHEPI has recruited an exciting group of talented investigators with the goal of developing a broad program that spans basic discovery, animal models, and clinical trials to fight emerging infectious diseases.
