The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s leadership believe in maintaining a supportive, collegial environment for all. Through our initiatives, the Office of Career Opportunity and Support strives to create a culture where everyone is valued and has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
National data show that women are less likely to hold leadership positions in academic medicine, experience higher rates of burnout, and are more likely to leave academia. In addition, integrating caregiving and professional responsibilities is often challenging, and to date, disproportionately affects women. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s mission is In keeping with this mission, our office builds community and addresses and strengthens policies and programs related to recruitment, retention and promotion, leadership development and family support, and that is free from bias and mistreatment for faculty, students, and trainees.
To do so, we work closely with individuals and leaders across Mount Sinai to assess and improve our climate and structures. We build action teams across campuses, departments, and roles to leverage our community members’ strengths, expertise, and optimism, and to build and operationalize strategies that result in a fair, supportive environment for all.
