Interdisciplinary Environmental Health Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Department of Environmental Medicine and Climate Science (EMCS) has been at the forefront of environmental health research, education, and clinical practice for over 50 years. As one of the leading environmental medicine and public health departments among medical schools in the United States, our team of physicians, scientists, and biostatisticians remain at the forefront of advancing research in the field of environmental health.

Through our two- to three-year Interdisciplinary Environmental Health Postdoctoral Fellowship program, fellows develop the requisite knowledge, skills, and expertise to confront complex environmental health issues and diseases. Our program prepares EMPH Postdoctoral fellows to become academic leaders and/or clinician-scientists. The fellowship is supported in part by the NICHD T32 Research Training Program in Environmental Pediatrics. 

Postdoctoral Professional Development Program

The Environmental Medicine and Public Health Postdoctoral Professional Development Program prepares postdoctoral fellows to transition into successful careers by offering a core curriculum of fundamental skills not typically covered in traditional science training programs. Topics include strategic planning, time management, goal setting, career mapping, mentor and peer networking, mindfulness-based stress reduction, science communication, and grant writing – all vital skills for success in research and academia.

In addition to providing regular opportunities for individual reflection, peer-to-peer discussion, and group and instructor feedback, the program promotes the development of Individual Development Plans using strategies developed at Stanford University, and provides planning and networking resources provided by the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). 

Our mission is to evaluate and respond to the professional development needs, interests, and concerns of early career scientists and to support their transition into diverse careers as industry leaders, independent researchers, and critical thinkers.

In order to ensure these goals are met, we regularly request feedback from program participants and integrate ideas based on the latest research and best practices.
