Message From the Chair

The Department of Diagnostic, Molecular, and Interventional Radiology leverages the latest in detection and diagnostics to prevent and treat diverse conditions and cancers. Situated within the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, our faculty and researchers improve the lives of patients by engaging in high-impact research, compassionate care, and training the next generation of leaders in the field.

The Department supports digital technology that spans interventional radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), multi-slice computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography, advanced ultrasound, conventional radiography, and digital mammography. We regularly employ all the above to provide personalized therapeutic interventions, notably for:

  • Biopsies
  • Vascular therapies
  • Uterine artery embolization for fibroids (an alternative to hysterectomy)
  • Treatments for aneurysms, atherosclerosis, and many types of cancer

Training Benefits and Opportunities

Known nationally for our comprehensive and collaborative training experience, we currently offer several training opportunities. Within these programs, our residents and fellows gain experience using the latest imaging technology while being mentored by national leaders in the field. They work closely with Mount Sinai Health System surgeons, oncologists, and other caregivers to optimize diagnosis and treatment plans for patients with many different conditions, including head and neck, liver, lung, breast, and gastrointestinal cancers.
