Vascular and Interventional Radiology Independent Residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital

The Vascular and Interventional Radiology Independent Residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital is a one- to two-year program that emphasizes procedural expertise and clinical care in interventional radiology. Residents spend the majority of the program training at The Mount Sinai Hospital on New York City’s Upper East Side, leading clinical practice in interventional oncology, peripheral arterial disease, liver and kidney transplant intervention, venous intervention, deep vein thrombosis, and dialysis access and maintenance. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved residency is a growing program and has full admitting privileges, allowing our residents to see patients in multiple outpatient clinics five days a week.

Curriculum

Trainees on the Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology track complete the residency in one year, and all other residents complete it in two years. During The Mount Sinai Hospital rotation, residents are assigned to one of our state-of-the-art interventional radiology suites, where they cover all cases in that suite for a given week, which helps to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility. Our residents also complete inpatient and outpatient rotations at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West, both on Manhattan’s West Side. We emphasize clinical evaluation of both inpatients and outpatients, and you perform rotations in both arenas. In addition, our residents take elective rotations in cardiovascular imaging, vascular surgery, neurointerventional radiology, and vascular medicine.

We supplement our clinical training with a robust lecture and multidisciplinary conference schedule. In addition to a core lecture series in vascular medicine, vascular intervention, and interventional oncology, we also offer regularly scheduled conferences related to transplantation, hemodialysis access maintenance, liver tumor board, morbidity and mortality, aortic surgery, and weekly journal clubs, and interesting case conferences. You also participate in national teaching conferences, live case demonstrations, and hands-on workshops both on- and off-site.

Research

At Icahn Mount Sinai, we have abundant research opportunities for our residents. We encourage our residents to participate in clinical research projects leading to scientific presentations at national meetings and provide dedicated academic time to enable you to pursue these endeavors. Additionally, our residents regularly present abstracts at the annual Society of Interventional Radiology meeting. Our faculty members and researchers regularly participate in multicenter national trials related to interventional oncology, portal hypertension, peripheral arterial disease, and deep vein thrombosis. We provide financial support to attend academic conferences.

How to Apply

We offer all residency positions through the National Residency Matching Program.
