We encourage you to expand your vision of how future doctoral work can lead you to a rewarding career path involving cutting-edge biomedical research. We will guide you through the development of your application portfolios and your selection of programs to which you will apply for PhD, MD/PhD or other degrees, such as MS or MPH studies.

As a Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) scholar, you participate in an extensive orientation program for pre-doctoral students entering PREP, MSBS, MD, PhD, and MD/PhD programs during August. The formal orientation program and related social activities provide an early opportunity to begin exploring and enjoying your new academic environment.

You may request housing through the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai housing system, which will place you in a housing unit close to campus and all the wonderful recreational and cultural opportunities in the Mount Sinai neighborhood. These include Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.

You may take advantage of the programming of the Student Council, of the numerous opportunities provided by the Mount Sinai Recreation Office, and the athletic opportunities that abound in nearby Central Park and elsewhere in the city.

PREP alumni and PhD students joined students from other biomedical research education programs in New York to found the NYC Minority Graduate Student Network. As a PREP scholar you are invited to attend their activities, which include social mixers, roundtable forums, career development forums, and peer counseling.
