Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital

The Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital is a one-year, immersive experience designed to provide comprehensive subspecialty training and professional development.

Fellows benefit from:

  • Mentorship by experts in genitourinary (GU) pathology, ensuring strong diagnostic and academic growth
  • Diverse case exposure, ranging from routine specimens to the most challenging and rare diagnoses
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration, including participation in clinical conferences with urologists and oncologists, fostering integrative patient care
  • Research opportunities in a digitally advanced environment, including projects in digital pathology and artificial intelligence
  • Hands-on training in a state-of-the-art, fully digital lab, preparing you for the evolving future of pathology
  • A strong professional network, connecting you with a broad community of Mount Sinai alumni across the United States

Eligibility and Application

Applicants must provide proof of medical training, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status, successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited residency in anatomic pathology or anatomic/clinical pathology, and a valid New York State medical license or eligibility for New York State medical license. We offer one position each year, with compensation based on the candidate’s level of training.

Application period: July 1 - December 31 (rolling basis)

The Genitourinary Pathology Division processes approximately 8,000 cases per year. Over 12 months, the fellow plays an active role in both in-house and consultative diagnostic services. Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting and signing out cases under faculty supervision
  • Supervising pathology residents in grossing and case work-up
  • Communicating effectively with clinicians and surgeons, preparing fellows to function at the level of a junior attending

Educational Roles

Fellows contribute to the academic mission by:

  • Teaching pathology residents the fundamentals of GU pathology
  • Presenting cases at weekly departmental conferences
  • Participating in interdepartmental meetings, including the GU tumor board

We encourage fellows to engage in ongoing or original research projects within the GU Pathology Division or in collaboration with other departments. With Mount Sinai's fully digital pathology service and emerging artificial intelligence initiatives, fellows can contribute to advanced research focused on diagnostic innovation, prognostic biomarkers, and therapeutic prediction.

We review applications on a rolling basis. Applications should include the following:

  • Filled out Standard CAP Application Pathology Fellowships form
  • CV
  • Personal statement
