Message From the Directors

At Mount Sinai, we recognize the profound challenge faced by patients with refractory Crohn's disease, meaning standard medications and surgeries have failed. For these individuals, the constant spiral of Crohn’s can be devastating. We are committed to changing that narrative.

Mount Sinai’s Crohn’s Disease Stem Cell Transplantation Program offers an advanced approach: autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This treatment works by collecting a patient's own stem cells, temporarily resetting the inflammatory immune cells with targeted chemotherapy, and then reinfusing the healthy stem cells. We have seen this therapy provide significant improvement in symptoms for our patients, as well as meaningful, long-term recovery. Clinical studies, both past and ongoing, further support its ability to enhance quality of life when other care options have been exhausted.

Beyond delivering this innovative treatment, we are dedicated to understanding why and how it works. Through our clinical trial we are exploring strategies like combining stem cell transplantation with vedolizumab to improve and maintain remission. Simultaneously, we are building an international consortium to standardize stem cell transplantation for refractory Crohn’s disease, so we can help make it accessible to patients around the world.

We remain inspired by the difference this treatment makes in the lives of our patients. We welcome referring doctors to collaborate with us on their most challenging cases, and donors to join us in redefining the treatment of Crohn’s disease through stem cell transplantation.
