Mirken Family Clinical Neuroscience Institute

Message from the Director

The Mirken Institute serves a unique role for the expanded Mount Sinai Health System. We were created specifically to foster clinical and research teamwork among the health system’s outstanding neuroscience faculty. Our founder, Alan Mirken, understood the value in bringing together expertise in the clinical, statistical, and basic science domains, and promoting the interplay necessary for translational advances. He was especially attuned to the challenges of a complex and multifaceted system and he charged the Institute with nurturing the goals and collegial relationships necessary to enhance neuroscience and bring these advances to patients. Our research focuses on investigating the mechanisms underlying deep brain stimulation and on exploring the clinical genetic and imaging markers that predict outcomes. We bring together Mount Sinai faculty, from a variety of disciplines, who are developing innovative approaches that directly impact clinical care.
