The Ruth J. and Maxwell Hauser and Harriet and Arthur H. Aufses, Jr., MD Department of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai exemplifies surgical excellence, seamlessly blending patient care, research, and technology. With a legacy spanning over 150 years, our multispecialty team offers expertise across a wide range of surgical disciplines, including breast, colorectal, general surgery, endocrine surgery, laparoscopic surgery, pediatric surgery, complex wound care, and plastic surgery, as well as comprehensive care for peripheral vascular diseases. Our commitment to advancing surgical science and practice is evident in our state-of-the-art facilities and our dedication to providing world-class teaching for medical students and residents.

This commitment to education and innovation is embodied in our Mount Sinai Surgical Simulation Center, a cutting-edge facility that revolutionizes surgical education and training. This Center creates immersive health care scenarios, fostering teamwork and communication among staff, and ultimately enhancing patient safety and care. Equipped with virtual manikin simulators and high-definition laparoscopic stations, it serves as a hub for multidisciplinary learning and advanced training, promoting lifelong education for all staff and faculty.

Our dedication to surgical excellence extends beyond our immediate community through our Global Surgery Program. This initiative allows our surgeons and trainees to engage in international collaborations, bringing advanced surgical techniques and knowledge to underserved areas while gaining valuable experience in global health care challenges. This program not only broadens the horizons of our team but also contributes significantly to global surgical care improvement.

The Department offers a wealth of residency and fellowship programs, providing comprehensive training across various surgical specialties. Our dynamic curriculum, rooted in mentorship and hands-on experience, exposes trainees to a wide array of procedures, from general surgery to specialized fields such as surgical oncology and vascular surgery. Combined with our focus on research and patient-centered care, our programs prepare the next generation of surgical leaders to tackle the most challenging medical issues of our time.
