The Advanced Certificate in Public Health is a 15 credit hour program completed within one year. Students choose from three concentrations of study:
The Advanced Certificate credential serves as a foundation for public health training for practitioners, researchers, and other trainees who are interested in enhancing their public health skillset.
While enrolled in the certificate program, you may only register for the courses outlined in the advanced certificate program curriculum, to a maximum of 15 credits.
If you apply and are accepted into the MPH program, you can apply the credits that you accrued in the Advanced Certificate program toward the MPH degree.
How to Apply
Applicants to the Advanced Certificate in Public Health Program will need to submit several items.
- Completed SOPHAS Express application
- Application fee
- Official transcripts from all academic institutions attended
- One Letter of Recommendation
- Statement of Purpose and Objectives (Personal Statement)
- Resume or CV
- Scores from the TOEFL exam if English is your second language
We do not review applications for admission until we have received all supporting documents. We review applications for the Advanced Certificate in Public Health - on a rolling basis, with students entering in the upcoming fall term. Our deadline for admission to the fall term is two weeks prior to the start of classes. Students can apply to take courses at the start of winter and spring terms as well. At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) Admissions Office, we process all applications online. Final deadlines are:
- Fall – August 1st
- Spring I – December 1st
- Spring II – March 1st
If you are an international student, your admissions requirements include both government and school regulated processes.
The MPH and certificate programs are offered on a full time and part time basis. International students requiring a F-1 visa are eligible to apply only to the full time MPH degree and certificate programs.* Full time students are expected to complete the
MPH degree in two years and the certificate program in one year. Full time students are required to register for a minimum of 6 to 7 credits per term.
