The Diagnostic Radiology Residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital includes a number of benefits related to housing, health insurance, meals, vacation time, and more.

Housing

Mount Sinai owns numerous apartment buildings in the vicinity, which are used for resident housing. All incoming residents are guarenteed housing. Accommodations include studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Household sie a factor in determining housing assignments. All Upper East Side housing is within walking distance to Mount Sinai. Additional Mount Sinai housing is available in the Upper West Side and Midtown.  On-site hospital parking is offered to residents at a reduced monthly rate. Pre-tax dollars can be used toward commuting expenses.

Health Insurance

Mount Sinai provides health coverage for residents. Additional benefits include:

  • Prescription drug plan, dental coverage, a vision coverage at no cost to the resident and his/her family.
  • Life insurance, short-and long-term disability insurance, and malpractice insurance at no cost to the resident. 
  • Available dependent and child life insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insruance.
  • Available flexible spending accounts for health care and dependent care.

Conference Stipend

The radiology department reimburses travel expenses up to $2,500 to attend clinical and research meetings for the presentation of papers, abstracts, and scientific exhibits. This stipend covers meeting registration fees, transportation expenses including domestic coach aire travel, lodging, and per diem expenses such as meals. An additional $500 travel support fund is available from GME. Furthermore, the department provides a stipend to attend the ACE Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) couse during the third year of radiology residency training. The department also pays for residents to attend the NYRS Core Exam Review Course (CERC) in preparation for board review. 

Education Stipends

The radiology department supports resident expenditures related to educational enhancement.  StatDx, RadPrimer, and BoardVital subscriptions are provided at no cost to the resident. The department pays for New York Roentgen Society (NYRS) membership dues. The department will also reimburse BLS and ACLS certification and renewal course, as well as ABR exam fees. GME provides an annual $700 educational stipend to all residents.  The department provides an additional annual $650 educational stipend.

Meal Stipend

GME provides an annual $1,000 meal stipend to all residents. The Radiology Department provides an additional annual $1,200.  These funds can be used at all food service stations at Mount Sinai including the cafeteria and on-site Starbucks. 

Vacation

Residents receive four weeks of vacation that may be used as single week blocks or combined into multi-weeks blocks. Residents typically receive the vacation blocks they request. Although, scheduling must consider the clinical reends of the department. Residents accrue one personal day per quarter and have unlimited sick days.
